I'll Carry the Best of You

[Verse 1] Your coat is still hanging by the kitchen door The blue mug you chose sits where it did before I found your old note in the drawer by the sink I read it twice slowly, then stopped to think [Pre-Chorus] Some days move easy, some barely move I keep a little room for the things we knew [Chorus] If time carries us to different shores I’ll keep your kindness close to mine Through every season, every open door You’ll have a place in my life Not as a promise that nothing will change But as the good we made, still true Wherever the years may take me from here I’ll carry the best of you [Verse 2] The garden is waking beside the back steps New leaves are uncurling where rainwater rests I heard your laugh in a story last night And smiled at the memory, gentle and bright [Pre-Chorus] Some days move easy, some barely move I keep a little room for the things we knew [Chorus] If time carries us to different shores I’ll keep your kindness close to mine Through every season, every open door You’ll have a place in my life Not as a promise that nothing will change But as the good we made, still true Wherever the years may take me from here I’ll carry the best of you [Bridge] And if the road grows long between us If new mornings rearrange the view I won’t ask the past to hold us I’ll be grateful that I knew you [Final Chorus] If time carries us to different shores I’ll keep your kindness close to mine Through every season, every open door You’ll have a place in my life Not as a promise that nothing will change But as the good we made, still true Wherever the years may take me from here I’ll carry the best of you [Outro] I’ll carry the best of you
